Medical School for Free!

Hey there fellow bloggers! I have been too busy to post lately what with working at least 10 hour days (I have to include the commute time into my work day because let's be honest, it is hard to get anything else productive done from your car while trying to drive safely!) and trying to take care of/assist my crazy husband who is taking thirty credits, still jetting around the country for interviews, completing and editing his honors thesis (which is a 144 page book by the way), as well as trying to figure out what we are going to be doing with ourselves in April when school gets out (which takes a lot more research than the average decision considering that some of our options include visas, work permits, shipping our belongings, finding a place to live, and coming up with tons of money to pay for things with a poor exchange rate). On Valentines Day we got some pretty amazing news which I am excited to share. As you all know Scooter has been in the application process for medical school since June 1st when we turned our applications in. Because he is applying to a joint MD/PhD program everything takes longer and is basically slower and more delayed than applying to MD only programs we still have not really heard anything from our top pick schools, but on Valentines Day Scooter got accepted to a joint MD/PhD program at the University of Kansas. Now this is good news of course, but when you find out that this means that they are going to waive all medical school and PhD program fees it sounds really good right? How about if they throw ~$22,000 in for us to live on every year? Sounds amazing! We are thrilled. This will hopefully allow us to come out of medical school virtually debt free. So, how is this going to fit in with our other opportunities (mainly, Oxford)? Well, we are not sure either, but Scooter is going to be talking with the director of the MD/PhD program on Tuesday to see if they would be willing to defer the offer for one year while we go to Oxford. It has always been a dream of his and we really want this to work out. It would be an adventure of a lifetime and an amazing experience. We'll keep you updated with the decision!
